🛡️ Universal Stealth Mask & Anti-Adblock Defuser

A lightweight, configurable anti-adblock defuser for modern browsers and userscript managers. Helps neutralize anti-adblock detection while protecting HTML5 video, HLS/DASH streaming, audio, and recognized CAPTCHA/challenge systems.

Some websites detect content blockers through bait resources, DOM measurements, computed styles, network requests, cookies, browser storage, performance entries, JavaScript flags, or injected detection scripts. This userscript targets many of these techniques through configurable browser API protections, with explicit safeguards for recognized media and challenge resources.

Works independently or integrates automatically with Hide Web Elements Pro through Plugin API 3.

🆕 What's new in v14.0

  • Configurable sensitivity: Choose Lenient, Balanced, or Strict bait detection to control how broadly matching rules apply.
  • Content-aware fake responses: Matching bait requests receive synthetic successful responses with resource-appropriate content types and payloads.
  • Storage-flag protection: Hide or block matching anti-adblock detection keys in localStorage and sessionStorage.
  • Multilingual wall remover: Detect supported anti-adblock messages, remove matching overlays, unlock scrolling, and clear residual blur or pointer locks.
  • Overlay undo: Restore the last removed wall directly from the Shield panel or userscript menu.
  • Built-in self-test: Test supported protection mechanisms on the current page and review passed, failed, or skipped checks.
  • Plugin API 3 integration: Native settings, permission-aware controls, a dock button, statistics, and a live block log inside compatible Hide Web Elements Pro releases.
  • Expanded standalone tools: Export and import JSON settings, change sensitivity, inspect blocked activity, and restore removed overlays without installing HWE Pro.

⚙️ Key features

  • Tiered bait detection: Three sensitivity levels combine known advertising-network patterns, generic bait names, optional strict-mode keywords, and custom matching rules.
  • Network interception: Filters matching requests made through fetch, XMLHttpRequest, sendBeacon, image sources, script sources, iframe sources, link references, and supported resource attributes.
  • Content-aware fake responses: Supplies synthetic responses appropriate to recognized JavaScript, CSS, image, SVG, HTML, text, and other matching bait resources.
  • DOM and layout protection: Masks selected bait-element measurements through dimensions, bounding rectangles, visibility checks, offsetParent, and computed styles.
  • Detection-cookie filtering: Targets recognized anti-adblock cookie names while leaving unrelated cookie operations outside its matching rules.
  • Storage-flag filtering: Targets recognized detection keys accessed through localStorage and sessionStorage.
  • Performance API filtering: Filters matching bait entries from Performance API queries and PerformanceObserver callbacks.
  • Detector compatibility shims: Provides selected fake detector globals, advertising API compatibility values, and inert detection-library interfaces.
  • Console and error filtering: Suppresses selected anti-adblock warnings, errors, and matching bait-resource failures.
  • Dynamic resource filtering: Monitors inserted scripts, iframes, and other supported resource elements for matching bait patterns.
  • Multilingual overlay removal: Identifies supported anti-adblock walls, removes matching overlays, and attempts to recover page scrolling and interaction.
  • Known-wall CSS: Hides recognized anti-adblock containers, including supported Funding Choices-style walls.
  • Unblur and unlock: Clears selected blur effects, pointer restrictions, scroll locks, and wall-related body classes after detection and removal.
  • Link audit cleanup: Removes hyperlink ping attributes from existing and dynamically inserted links.
  • Native-looking patches: Includes function-string masking and defensive API patching to improve compatibility with selected detection checks.
  • Duplicate-load protection: Prevents an additional instance from initializing on the same page.
  • Fail-safe patching: Individual hooks are guarded so unsupported APIs do not automatically stop unrelated protections.

🎬 Media & streaming protection

Recognized media resources and selected player/CDN infrastructure are deliberately excluded from ordinary bait blocking to reduce interference with legitimate playback.

  • HTML5 video and audio: Protects recognized media resources and avoids applying bait-element masking to recognized players and their descendants.
  • HLS and DASH: Recognizes common manifests, segments, and streaming resource patterns.
  • Supported formats: Includes formats such as .m3u8, .mpd, .mp4, .m4s, .m4v, .ts, .webm, .mp3, .aac, .flac, .opus, .m4a, .vtt, .ttml, and other recognized media extensions.
  • Streaming paths: Recognizes common /video/, /hls/, /dash/, /manifest/, /playlist/, /segment/, /stream/, /live/, and related media paths.
  • Content-aware element protection: Blocked bait images receive compatibility handling so selected load and dimension checks can appear successful.

Protection uses extension, path, host, and element-matching rules; it is not a guarantee that every streaming service will work without issues.

🧩 CAPTCHA & browser challenge protection

The script recognizes common CAPTCHA and challenge systems and avoids intentionally interfering with their dedicated resources.

  • Cloudflare Turnstile and challenge pages
  • Google reCAPTCHA
  • hCaptcha
  • Arkose Labs / FunCaptcha
  • GeeTest
  • Recognized CAPTCHA delivery resources

Known challenge hosts and paths are excluded from execution where configured. When a challenge is detected on an ordinary page, the defuser can automatically enter pass-through mode, suspending active filtering until the page is reloaded or the script is otherwise restarted.

🔌 Hide Web Elements Pro integration

When a compatible Hide Web Elements Pro release supporting Plugin API 3 is available, the script registers automatically as an optional plugin. No separate plugin installation is required for this companion script.

  • Shield tab: View the current protection status, page/site/all-time counters, and recent activity.
  • Master switch: Enable or disable the defuser from the HWE Pro interface.
  • Site control: Pause or resume protection for the current site, including its subdomains.
  • Native settings: Configure sensitivity, individual protection layers, allowlist domains, extra bait keywords, and paused sites through the plugin settings.
  • Dock button: Toggle the defuser from the HWE Pro dock. An optional setting can show the current page's blocked count.
  • Live block log: Inspect matching activity by type and rule, copy the log, clear the current page's log, or reset all-time statistics.
  • Overlay recovery: Inspect recently removed overlays, restore a removed wall, or request a permanent HWE Pro hide rule where the optional permission is available.
  • Self-test: Run protection checks directly from the Shield panel or HWE Pro command menu.
  • Commands: Toggle protection, pause or resume the current site, allow the site's own requests, run the self-test, restore an overlay, copy the log, and clear the log.
  • Permission-aware UI: The plugin uses HWE Pro's UI and command permissions, with hide-rule creation available through an optional permission.

When HWE Pro takes control of the plugin, the standalone userscript menu commands are hidden to avoid duplicate controls. They return automatically when plugin mode is no longer active.

🧰 Standalone controls

Hide Web Elements Pro is optional. Without it, the script provides controls through your userscript manager's menu.

  • Enable / Disable on this site: Pause or resume the script for the current hostname.
  • Toggle features: Enable or disable individual protection layers. Changes take effect after a page reload.
  • Change sensitivity: Cycle between Lenient, Balanced, and Strict.
  • Edit allowlist domains: Exclude specified hosts and their subdomains from bait matching.
  • Edit extra bait keywords: Add custom URL or element-class tokens.
  • Show blocked count: Inspect current-page, current-site, and all-time totals alongside recent blocked activity.
  • Run self-test: Check supported mechanisms on the current page.
  • Restore last removed wall: Undo the most recent overlay removal.
  • Export settings: Copy the current configuration as JSON.
  • Import settings: Paste JSON configuration and reload the page to apply the changes.

The script does not inject a permanent statistics dashboard into webpages when running standalone.

🛠️ Available protection switches

Individual protection layers can be managed separately, allowing you to disable a potentially incompatible feature without turning off the entire script.

  • Network bait: Matching requests and resource assignments.
  • DOM / layout probes: Element dimensions, visibility, and style checks.
  • Detection cookies: Matching anti-adblock cookie access.
  • Storage flags: Matching localStorage and sessionStorage keys.
  • Performance API: Matching resource-entry filtering.
  • Console filter: Selected anti-adblock warnings and errors.
  • Overlay remover: Text-based walls and scroll recovery.
  • Known wall CSS: Supported wall-container selectors.
  • Unblur & unlock: Selected blur and interaction restrictions.
  • Fake load events: Synthetic load events for selected blocked bait elements.
  • Fake globals: Selected detector compatibility values; configuration changes may require a reload.
  • Debug log: Output matching block activity to the browser console.

🧪 Built-in self-test

The self-test runs checks for supported protection mechanisms on the current page and reports passed, failed, or skipped results. It covers layout/style probes, fetch, XMLHttpRequest, sendBeacon, detection cookies, storage flags, fake globals, and the overlay remover where applicable.

Checks can be skipped when a feature is disabled, browser storage is unavailable, the page is not ready, or a CAPTCHA/challenge pause is active. The self-test is a diagnostic tool, not a guarantee of compatibility with every website.

🧑‍💻 Userscript Bridge API

The script exposes a read-only public API through window.__UADefuser for integrations with other userscripts.

  • version — current script version.
  • isBait(input) — returns whether the input matches the active bait rules.
  • explain(input, kind) — returns the matching rule token, or an empty string if no rule matches. The optional kind argument supports element matching with 'el'.
  • isVideoResource(input) — identifies recognized media extensions or streaming paths.
  • isPaused() — reports whether the defuser is paused for a detected challenge.
  • getStats() — returns current statistics, including session, site, and all-time counts.
  • getLog() — returns a copy of the recent block log.
  • getKinds() — returns block counts grouped by activity type.
  • selfTest() — runs the built-in diagnostic checks.
  • restoreWall() — attempts to restore the most recently removed overlay.

A uadefuser:bait event is dispatched whenever matching bait is blocked. Its detail contains JSON text describing the activity type, resource or detail, and matching rule.

Other userscripts should check that window.__UADefuser exists before calling its methods, because the script may be disabled for a site or excluded on a challenge page.

🔐 Permissions & privacy

PermissionPurpose
unsafeWindowAccess browser APIs in the page's JavaScript context.
GM_getValue / GM_setValueStore settings, site preferences, and block statistics locally through the userscript manager.
GM_registerMenuCommandRegister standalone userscript menu commands.
GM_unregisterMenuCommandHide standalone commands while HWE Pro manages the plugin interface.

Privacy: The script does not send its configuration or statistics to an external analytics server. Settings and counters are stored locally through the userscript manager, with a localStorage fallback where supported. The script modifies selected page APIs and may synthesize responses for matching bait requests.

❓ FAQ

Does it remove all advertisements?

No. Its primary purpose is to defuse anti-adblock detection, not to act as a complete cosmetic or network-level ad blocker. Pair it with a content blocker, browser filters, or Hide Web Elements Pro for broader page control.

Does it bypass every anti-adblock system?

No. Websites use different detection mechanisms, and some systems may remain effective or require site-specific adjustments. Results depend on the website, browser, userscript manager, and active sensitivity level.

Will it break HTML5, HLS, or DASH video?

Recognized media formats, streaming paths, and selected player/CDN hosts are excluded from ordinary bait blocking. However, no universal compatibility guarantee is possible. If playback fails, try Lenient sensitivity or disable the relevant protection layer for that site.

Does it protect CAPTCHA systems?

Known challenge domains are excluded, challenge-related resources are recognized, and automatic pause logic can suspend active filtering when a challenge is detected. Unrecognized or newly introduced challenge systems may behave differently.

Do I need Hide Web Elements Pro?

No. Standalone mode includes its own menu controls, settings, counters, self-test, and JSON import/export. A compatible HWE Pro release supporting Plugin API 3 adds the integrated settings panel, dock button, commands, and live log.

Why did the userscript menu commands disappear?

When HWE Pro manages the plugin, the standalone commands are hidden because equivalent controls are available through HWE Pro. They return when plugin mode is no longer active.

Can I disable it on a specific website?

Yes. In standalone mode, use the enable/disable menu command for the current site. In plugin mode, use the site switch or configure the paused-sites list. Matching site entries also cover their subdomains.

What should I do if a website stops working properly?

Try Lenient sensitivity, allowlist the affected request host, or disable individual protection layers. Overlay removal, storage filtering, network interception, and DOM probes can affect sites that use similar patterns for legitimate functionality.

Can other userscripts access its detection logic?

Yes. Integrations can use the public window.__UADefuser API and listen for the uadefuser:bait event. Check for the API before using it.
